Inspired by Nsibidi, a Nigerian language,these works by Victor Ekpuk comprise old and new symbols or codes to express contemporary experiences.

Artist’s Statement

The works in this show explore the relationships, challenges and responses to changes that characterize the human condition.
Inspired by Nsibidi, an indigenous African system of writing, forms in these works are reduced to a basic essence resulting in new symbols or codes that are used to express contemporary experiences. When combined with Nsibidi, these new symbols or codes provide the background narrative to my compositions. These narrative are better perceived when they are felt rather than read literally.

South African Artist Lucky Sibiya’s uMabatha wood prints. Lucky Sibiya painted woodcut panels, his abstract paintings and sculptural carvings. Sibiya is best known richly carved flowing rhythmic lines and painted wood panels.

Discloses Greg Rice using his skill as a welder and sculptor to create fine and applied art objects. This include figurative and abstract pieces.

Georges M’Bourou is a celebrated Gabon artist whose paintings are essentially a quest for into the mystery of light depicting life scenes, women’s faces and African rites and traditions in paintings that are figurative and abstract shown in the US at Parish Gallery and on Tokesplace.com
